OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's golf team opens its spring season at the Ball State Sunshine Invitational in Dade City, Fla. on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 7-8.
The six-team match play event begins with two rounds on Thursday and one on Friday beginning at 7:30 a.m. CT each day from the Lake Jovita Golf Course. Teams earn one point for winning the team match and a half point for tying. The team with the most points after the three rounds is crowned champion.
Each team match will be composed of six individual matches.
Senior Jordan York was the Mavericks' leading scorer in the fall season with a stroke average of 78.6. She had one top-10 finish, tying for 10th at the Loyola Fall Invitational in September.
Freshman Zora Gittens was second with a stroke average of 80. Samantha Chong was third at 80, and Mandy Boyle and Hannah Hunke tied for fourth at 81.6.
Omaha's best finish of the fall was fourth out of eight teams at the Creighton Classic on Oct. 1-2.
The Mavericks were picked to finish seventh out of nine teams in the annual Summit League Preseason Poll.
Following play in Florida, the Mavericks will play next at the Kiawah Island Spring Classic hosted by College of Charleston on Sunday – Tuesday, Feb. 24-26.
