Mavericks Finish First Round at Ball State Invitational

DADE CITY, Fla. – The Omaha women's golf team played the first round of the Ball State Sunshine Invitational on Thursday.
The tournament format features three match play rounds among six schools over two days. The second round was postponed due to darkness and will finish on Friday followed immediately by the third round.
In the quarterfinal round, the Mavericks were matched up with James Madison, losing 5 ½ to ½. The Mavericks earned their half point when Sami Langford halved with Joanna Keck. In the other matches, JMU's Katie Turk defeated Jordan York, one up. The Dukes' Kate Owens defeated Zora Gittens, 5 & 3, and Lauren Comegys beat UNO's Hannah Hunke, 7 & 5. JMU's Morgan Cox defeated Samantha Chong, two up, and Carly Lyvers defeated Mandy Boyle, 6 & 4.
In the semifinal round, the Mavericks are paired with Florida Atlantic. Only Gittens has completed her match, defeating Arielle Keating, 6 & 5. The other matches all have four to five holes to play. York trails FAU's Madison Heideman, one down through 13. Chong is three up on Taylor Morgan through 14. Hunke is three down to the Owls' Rosa Barnak through 14. FAU's Amanda Leslie is three up on Langford through 13, and Boyle and Jennifer Keim are all square through 13.
Play resumes Friday at 7:30 a.m. CT from the Lake Jovita Golf Course.
