
Matt Pile was named Academic All-District for the second straight year on Thursday.

OMAHA, Neb. -- Junior Matt Pile was named to the 2020 Academic All-District 7 Men's Basketball First Team on Thursday, it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The team was selected by a vote of sports information directors whose institutions are located within CoSIDA District 7, which includes the states of Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma and Texas.

It marks the second career inclusion on an Academic All-District team for Pile, who now advances to the Academic All-America ballot and will be considered for national accolades next month. He previously earned third-team Academic All-America recognition in 2019, becoming the Omaha men's basketball program's first Academic All-American in 38 years.

Pile is Omaha's seventh Academic All-District selection in program history. The Mavericks have earned three all-district awards in the Division I era.

Pile carries a 3.93 grade-point average with a major in chemistry. He is a member of the UNO Dean's List and the Summit League's Academic Honor Roll and Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence.

In his junior campaign, the Wichita, Kan., native is one of two Summit League players averaging a double-double. He has 12.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.6 blocks per game while shooting 58.7% with a team-leading 11 double-doubles. Pile leads the league in total rebounds, rebounds per game, defensive rebounds, offensive rebounds and blocks. He ranks 14th nationally for total rebounds, 23rd for rebounds per game and 27th for field goal percentage.
