OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha baseball team grabbed an early lead but could not hold on as the Mavericks fell 10-3 vs. Creighton in the debut of Tal Anderson Field on Friday afternoon.

The Mavericks fall to 3-4 on the season while the Bluejays improve to 3-2.

How It Happened

Harrison Denk drew a walk in the first at-bat for a Maverick in the new ballpark before Chris Esposito's RBI triple brought Denk home, plating the first run at Tal Anderson Field and giving Omaha the early lead.
Ryan Doran followed with an RBI single in the next at-bat to double the Maverick lead in the bottom of the first.
A Maverick fielding error with the bases load and two outs in the fourth inning allowed two Bluejays to touch home and tie the game at two.
Creighton grabbed a two-run lead in the fifth after a hit by pitch and walk with the bases loaded.
Breyden Eckhout reached base in the bottom of the fifth after being hit by the pitch before sprinting home on an RBI double by Mike Boeve.
The Bluejays got the run back in the sixth with an RBI single before a pair of RBI hits in the seventh expanded the CU lead to 8-3.
CU added two runs in the eighth with a two-run homer to post the 10-3 victory.

Doran and Boeve led the Mavericks with two hits apiece while Esposito and Denk had one hit.
Starter Joey Machado struck out four batters and had two unearned runs on four hits in 4.0 innings of work.
Mark Timmins was tagged with the loss after allowing two runs off one hit and four walks in 0.2 innings of relief.
Tanner Howe, Zach Munson and Jayden Maifeld combined to toss the next 3.1 innings on the mound while Harrison Kreiling threw a scoreless inning in relief.
