OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's golf team will be in Kansas this weekend to vie for the Summit League Championship on Saturday-Monday, April 24-26.
The tournament features 18 holes each day beginning at 8 a.m. from the Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kan. The league did not stage a championship in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Mavericks were picked to finish sixth out of eight teams in this year's annual preseason coaches' poll.
Freshman Jinna Boonbumroongsuk is Omaha's leading scorer this season with a stroke average of 80.8, just ahead of sophomore Mandi Granato at 80.9. Zora Gittens (83.1), Mika Miyata (83.3) and Hannah Hunke (83.3) round out the top five. They all will represented UNO in the tournament.
This will be the ninth tournament of the year for the Mavericks who last played at their own Stampede at the Creek at Indian Creek Golf Course on April 12-13. UNO finished eighth overall with Boonbumroongsuk as the team's top finisher, tying for 20th.
Boonbumroongsuk has led the Mavericks in scoring in three of the five spring tournaments and has been in the top three on the team in all eight events this season. Granato led the Mavericks in scoring in all three fall tournaments and has finished second on the team in the last two.
The Mavericks' highest finish in the Summit Championship came during the second year of their transition to Division I and the first year that they were eligible to compete, 2012-13, when they came in fourth.
