Omaha, Neb.-- Goalkeeper Emma Konsmo has been named this week's TicketSmarter Summit League Defensive Peak Performer, league officials announced on Monday, Sept. 18.Â
Konsmo made seven saves on eight shots in the Mavericks' 2-1 victory over the Oklahoma Sooners. The sophomore from Carlsbad, Calif., protected the lead for Omaha with many key saves down the stretch. In the final minute with just 13 seconds on the clock, Konsmo shut down the Sooners' leading scorer with a sprawling save at point-blank range.Â
"Incredible job by Emma," head coach Tim Walters said. "She came up big for us in pivotal moments. But again, it was another great performance from the entire group defensively to limit chances and get us a huge result."Â
Konsmo collects the second weekly award of her career and first from the Summit League. Last season after the Summit League Championship, Emma was named to College Soccer News' Team of the Week (Nov. 8). She joins Grace Crockett, who was named TicketSmarter Summit League Defensive Peak Performer of the Week earlier this season.Â
Konsmo and the Mavericks begin Summit League play at North Dakota on Thursday, Sept. 21. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Bronson Field in Grand Forks, N.D.Â
