No. 2 Mavericks Host Augustana Wednesday
Weekly Notes
The second-ranked UNO wrestling team will host NCC foe Augustana on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m in the Sapp Fieldhouse.
The Mavs have won 14 of the last 15 matches between the two schools and also hold a 25-10 lead over the Vikings in the all-time series. The match will also feature a live video webcast.

Records & Rankings
The Mavericks are currently 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the North Central Conference. UNO remains at No. 2 in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association poll released on Feb. 6. The Mavericks have seven ranked individuals led by national champions Todd Meneely, who is ranked No. 1 at 149 pounds, and Cody Garcia, No. 1 at 125. Aaron Denson is third at 165 this week, Ross Taplin is fourth at 174, and Brent Pankoke is No. 2 at 184. Jacob Marrs remains at second this week at 197 pounds, while Tony Lewis moved up two spots to sixth at 285.
Augustana is currently 5-5 on the season and 0-2 in the NCC and has two ranked individuals, Beau Severtson, No. 7 at 184, and Ty Copsey, No. 4 at 197.
The Coach
Mike Denney is in his 29th season as the Maverick head coach. The Dakota Wesleyan graduate has a 275-108-5 career mark. He has twice been named the NCAA II National Coach of the Year and led the 1991, 2004, 2005, and 2006 Mavericks to NCAA II national championships.
Last Week
The Mavericks had a dominating victory Friday as they defeated top-ranked Minnesota State, Mankato 32-7 at Sapp Fieldhouse. UNO avenged a loss in the finals of the NWCA National Duals to MSU. The Mavs won eight of 10 matches, and were led by pinfalls from No. 2 Jacob Marrs and No. 4 Ross Taplin. UNO improved their dual record to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the NCC.
On Deck
UNO will remain at home next week to host Northern Iowa on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. in the Sapp Fieldhouse. UNI holds an 11-4 advantage aganist the Mavs and this will be the first time the two schools have met since the 1999-00 season, a match won by the Panthers.
