Volleyball Team Begins Fall Practice

The 2003 University of Nebraska at Omaha volleyball team returns five starters and 11 letterwinners from last season's 14-17 squad that finished eighth in the North Central Conference with a 4-12 conference mark.
The 2002 Mavericks more than doubled their previous year's win total when UNO finished 6-21. Although the Mavericks have just one senior in setter Kylie Lebeda (Omaha, Neb./Marian HS), the 2003 roster possess five players at least two years starting experience.
Juniors Jenny Rankin (North Platte, Neb./North Platte HS), Julia McConahay (North Platte, Neb./North Platte HS), Alyssa Matthes (Milford, Neb./Milford HS), and Katie Blacketer (North Bend, Neb./North Bend Central HS) join Lebeda as the Mavericks' returning starters.
The Mavericks will play two exhibition matches before the official start of the 2003 campaign. UNO will hold its annual red-black scrimmage on Tuesday, August 19, 6 p.m., at the Sapp Fieldhouse. This will be the first chance for fans to catch the 2003 Mavericks in action. UNO will be divided into two squads and will play five games. The Mavericks will play an exhibition match with its alumni team on Saturday, August 23, 6 p.m., at the Sapp Fieldhouse. The match will be preceded by an alumnae vs. alumnae match beginning at 5 p.m. Admission is free to the public for both the Red-Black Scrimmage and the Alumni Match..
Nebraska-Omaha will officially begin two-a-day practices on Tuesday, August 12 with practice times beginning at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
The Mavericks will officiailly open the 2003 season in Boca Raton, Fla. on Aug. 30-31 when they participate in the Lynn University Tournament.
