2003 Exhibition Season Begins on Aug. 12

The University of Nebraska at Omaha Maverick soccer team will begin the 2003 season with three exhibition games in the Omaha area. Opening the season will be the Canadian Under-17 National Team with a 4 p.m. contest on Tuesday, Aug. 12 at the Soccer Field at Ak-Sar-Ben. The annual "Meet the Mavs" day will take place on Aug. 23 at 4 p.m. with an exhibition with Bellevue University following at 5 p.m. The Mavericks will wrap up the pre-season on Aug. 24 with a 6 p.m. contest at Creighton.
The regular season kicks off August 29 with a home game against Minnesota-Duluth at 5 p.m. The Mavericks will play 10 games at Ak-Sar-Ben this year, including a match-up with fellow NCAA II semifinalst, Metro State. The two teams will meet for the first time Sept. 28 at 1 p.m.
UNO finished 22-1-0 and made it to the NCAA championship game last year, losing 2-1 to Christian Brothers (Tenn.), in just their fourth year of competition, compiling a 68-16-0 record in those four years. The team finished second in the national ranking.
All-Americans Stephanie Kirby and Amy Price will help lead the Mavericks as they seek a fourth-straight conference crown and a return trip to the NCAA Tournament.
