UNO Wins Two at North Central Region Challenge

Omaha, Neb. - The University of Nebraska at Omaha volleyball team won a pair of matches on Saturday in the second day of competition in the North Central Region Challenge being held at UNO's Sapp Fieldhouse. The Mavericks defeated Minnesota State, Moorhead, 3-1 (21-30, 30-24, 30-22, 30-19) and concluded the tournament with a 3-1 (30-19, 30-26, 19-30, 33-31) win over Northern State.
Four Mavericks recorded double-figure kills in the victory over Minnesota State, Moorhead. Junior outside hitter Amy Sibbernsen (Omaha, Neb.) led the Mavericks with 20 kills and 11 digs in the match. Sophomore outside hitter Chelsea Miller (Aurora, Neb.) added 15 kills and 11 digs. Junior middle blocker Alyssa Matthes (Milford, Neb.) contributed with 13 kills and two blocks. Junior outside hitter Julia McConahay (North Platte, Neb.) came off the bench to register 11 kills and a team-high 18 digs. McConahay also hit a team-high .455 (11k-1e-22a) in the match.
Once again, Sibbernsen led the Mavericks in the victory over Northern State as UNO overcame a 26-19 deficit in the fourth game to pull out the victory. Sibbernsen recorded her 11th double-double of the season while pounding 21 kills to go along with 10 digs. Miller added 11 kills while McConahay posted a team-high 17 digs. Senior setter Kylie Lebeda (Omaha, Neb.) tallied 56 assists, nine digs, and three kills in the victory.
The Mavericks, who are now 9-6 on the season, will travel to Marshall, Minn. on Thursday, Sept. 18 for a 7 p.m. match with Southwest Minnesota State.
