Win Number 75 Comes in a Shutout for Mavs

OMAHA, Neb.- Head Coach Don Klosterman and his Mavs picked up career win number 75 Saturday afternoon in a 4-0 shutout against Washburn at the Soccer Field at Ak-Sar-Ben. Juniors Ashley Grace and Anne Willrett, senior Jessica Dotson and freshman Haley Fries all scored in the victory to move UNO to 7-0-0 on the year with six shutouts.
Grace scored her team-leading goal ten minutes in on a pass from Dotson. Thirteen minutes later Dotson contributed another assist, this time to Fries. Grace leads with six goals, Fries follows with five and Dotson now leads the team with three assists.
The Lady Blues were held to just one first-half shot but managed to keep the ball on UNO's end early in the game. The Maverick defense held strong though and got the ball out for the two scores.
The second half went scoreless for 43 minutes until Willrett scored her first of the year on a pass from freshman Tricia Braziel. With just eight seconds remaining, Dotson then found the back of the net for her season-first on a Willrett pass to end the scoring.
Sophomore Amy Price was called upon just once in the game to make a save as she picked up shutout number five. Her goals against average improved to 0.17. Washburn keeper Erica Painting made 11 saves as her team fell to 2-7-0 in its first year. The Mavs outshot the Lady Blues 41-5 and improved their shots per game average to 7.14.
Up next for the Mavs will be two-year team Emporia State (2-2-0). The Hornets and Mavs will kickoff at 1 p.m. at Ak-Sar-Ben on Sunday.
