Mavs Host No. 6 UMD; Travel to No. 21 AC

The University of Nebraska at Omaha volleyball team (13-6/4-2), currently in third place in the NCC standings, will play host to NCC leader Minnesota Duluth (17-2/5-0), currently ranked No. 6 in the nation, at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23 at the Sapp Fieldhouse. The Mavericks will then travel to Sioux Falls, S.D. for a 7 p.m. match on Saturday, Oct. 24 against No. 21 Augustana (14-7/4-3). The Record:
The Mavericks are currently 13-6 on the season and 4-2 in the NCC after sweeping North Dakota, 3-0 at home last Saturday, Oct. 16, in UNO's only match last week. The Mavericks, who are 8-2 against North Central Region opponents, are tied for 3rd in the latest NCAA II North Central Region rankings. UNO received 52 votes in the most recent CSTV/AVCA top 25 poll.

Rankin, McLeay Lead Mavs To Sweep Over North Dakota:
Omaha, Neb. -- Senior outside hitters Jenny Rankin and Amy McLeay combined for 34 kills and hit .375 to lead 24th-ranked Nebraska-Omaha to a 30-21, 30-25, 30-24 win over North Dakota before 1,095 fans in North Central Conference volleyball action Saturday night, Oct. 16, at the Sapp Fieldhouse.
Rankin recorded season-high marks with 15 kills and a .462 hitting percentage with only three errors in 26 attempts. McLeay had a match-high 19 kills, including 10 in the first game, and hit .316 while adding five digs and four blocks.
Junior setter Christie Johnson dished out a match-high 45 assists and added two service aces, seven digs, and a career-high five blocks. Junior libero Chelsea Miller led the Mavericks defensively with a match-high 16 digs as UNO held a 53-38 advantage in digs for the match.
The Mavericks hit for a season-high .328 in the match while holding North Dakota to a .157 hitting percentage.
Sophomore Aileen Cahill led the Sioux with 11 kills and six digs. Cahill was the only North Dakota player to manage double-figures in kills. Sophomore Christina Van Der Most recorded a double-double with 12 assists and 12 digs.
Shires Earns 300th Career Victory:
Rose Shires picked up her 300th career victory when the Mavericks swept Hillsdale 3-0 (30-17, 31-29, 30-25) on Aug. 28 at the North Alabama Classic. Shires has amassed a 309-170 (. 645) career record in her 15th season as the Mavericks' mentor. Shires, the 1996 AVCA Division II national coach of the year, is the second winningest coach in the school's history behind Janice Kruger who recorded a 352-96 mark in her nine Maverick seasons from 1979-87.
Rankin Joins 1,000-Kill Club:
With her third kill in the Mavericks' 3-0 sweep over Minnesota State on Oct. 2, outside hitter Jenny Rankin became just the 15th player in school history to record 1,000 career kills. Rankin, a senior from North Platte, Neb., has now registered 1,037 kills in her four-year Maverick career.

Minnesota Duluth is in first place in the NCC with an undefeated 5-0 conference record. The No. 6-ranked Bulldogs are 17-2 overall after losing a marathon five-game match to No. 4 Concordia-St. Paul last week. UMD is ranked first in the latest NCAA II North Central Region rankings.
The Bulldogs are led by senior outside hitter Callie Zwettler who is averaging an NCC-leading 5.27 kills per game. She is second on the squad with 3.37 digs per game. Senior setter Greta Iisakka leads the NCC with 13.98 assists per game. Leading the Bulldogs defensively is junior libero Allison Boddy who is averaging 6.00 digs per game..

All-NCC setter Angie Hummel directs the Viking offense, averaging 11.41 assists and 3.14 digs per game. Sophomore middle blocker Andrea Oswald is averaging a team-leading 1.28 blocks and 0.32 service aces per game. Leading Augustana defensively is sophomore libero Abby Schmidt who has recorded 4.39 digs per game.
