Mavs Fall To NCC Leader USD in Four Games

OMAHA, Neb. - Behind a balanced offensive attack and solid defense, North Central Conference leader South Dakota defeated Nebraska-Omaha 3-1 (22-30, 30-21, 30-22, 30-12) on Saturday night before 841 fans at the Sapp Fieldhouse.
South Dakota rebounded from a poor hitting performance in the first game, to dominate the remainder of the match. The Coyotes, who hit .000 in the opening frame, outhit Nebraska-Omaha .253 to .116 for the match, including a .500 to .025 edge in the fourth game.
The Mavericks were led by junior Heather Hainline, who recorded a career-high 13 kills, while adding three digs and two blocks. Senior Amy McLeay recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs. Junior Christie Johnson recorded 45 assists, seven digs, and four blocks. Nebraska-Omaha was led defensively by junior Chelsea Miller who tallied 20 digs.
South Dakota (15-11, 7-1 NCC) was led by outside hitters Lindsey Soukup and Kristen Miller. Both players recorded double-doubles with Soukup registering 15 kills and 20 digs, while Miller added 13 kills and 13 digs.
Libero Lacey Ross led the Coyotes in the back row with a match-high 22 digs, as South Dakota held a 76 to 66 advantage in digs for the match.
Nebraska-Omaha (14-8, 5-4 NCC) will be back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 2, when they host Northwest Missouri State beginning at 7 p.m. in the Sapp Fieldhouse.
