Sonoma State Drops Mavericks in Four Games

San Bernardino, Calif -- Sonoma State ended Nebraska-Omaha's five-match win streak with a 3-1 (30-27, 24-30, 36-34, 32-30) victory over the Mavericks in the Cal State San Bernardino Coyote Classic Saturday afternoon at Coussoulis Arena. UNO drops to 5-2 overall on the season with the loss.
The Mavericks, who beat Cal State L.A., 3-2 on Thursday, were led by freshman middle blocker Carlie Christensen with 17 kills, four service aces and seven blocks. Christensen hit a career-high .645 in the match.
Senior Amy McLeay registered her fourth double-double of the season with 14 kills and a season-high 20 digs. Senior Jenny Rankin tallied 13 kills and junior Heather Hainline was the fourth Maverick in double-figure kills with 12. Junior setter Christie Johnson recorded a double-double with 62 assists and 10 digs.
The Mavericks hit .203 as a team to .194 for Sonoma State and had more kills (67) than the Seawolves (60) as well as digs (71-68). UNO had 16 service errors while Sonoma survived despite 14 Maverick service aces. The Mavericks outblocked Sonoma State 11-6.
Nebraska-Omaha will conclude the tournament with a 9:30 p.m. (Central time) match tonight against No. 7-ranked Cal State San Bernardino, the tournament's host.
