Mavs Fall to No. 5 Minnesota Duluth in Four Games

DULUTH, Minn. - In a battle between the top two teams in the North Central Conference, fifth-ranked Minnesota Duluth took over the league's top spot with a 30-21, 27-30, 30-26, 30-28 victory over Nebraska-Omaha Friday night before 679 fans at Romano Gymnasium. The Bulldogs improved to 24-4 overall and 10-1 in the NCC, while the Mavericks dropped to 18-7 and 9-2 in the NCC.
Senior outside hitter Ashley Freeman led the Mavericks with 15 kills and four digs. Sophomore middle blocker Carlie Christensen added 10 kills and four blocks. Junior outside hitter Christina Reicks was the third Maverick in double figures with 10 kills, while adding eight digs.
The Mavericks were plagued by 13 service errors in the match. Minnesota Duluth held an 85-78 advantage in digs and a 10-6 edge in blocks.
Senior setter Christie Johnson turned in her sixth double-double of the season with 46 assists and 11 digs. Senior libero Chelsea Miller led the UNO defense with a match-high 28 digs.
UNO will conclude the regular season on Saturday night, Nov. 12, when the Mavericks visit Minnesota State, Mankato beginning at 7 p.m. Minnesota Duluth will host North Dakota on Saturday in their regular season finale.
