Fifth-Ranked Minnesota Duluth Ends UNO Volleyball

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Fifth-ranked and second-seeded Minnesota Duluth swept #23 and third-seeded Nebraska-Omaha 31-29, 30-22, 30-20 in the NCAA II North Central Regional semifinals on Friday evening at the Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul, Minn. on the campus of Concordia University. With the loss, the Mavericks ended their season with a 20-8 overall record
The Bulldogs were led by sophomore All-American Vicky Braegelmann's 15 kills and senior libero Allison Boddy's 21 digs. Freshman setter Katie Gangelhoff had 42 assists and led the Bulldog attack as they held a 49-32 advantage in kills.
The Mavericks were solid at the net, oublocking the Bulldogs 12.0 to 8.0. But not a single Maverick reached double-digit kills as they were led by junior outside hitter Christina Reicks' nine kills and 10 digs and senior outside hitter Ashley Freeman's eight kills, five digs and three blocks.
Seniors Briana Ritter and Heather Hainline each recorded a match-high six blocks in their final UNO match.
The Bulldog defense held the Mavericks to a .084 hitting pct. as UMD hit .167. UMD held the advantage in digs, 46-36.
The Bulldogs advance to the North Central Regional championship match, where they will take on the winner of the Concordia-St. Paul/Southwest Minnesota State match.
