Mavs Picked Third in NCC Volleyball Poll

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The University of Nebraska at Omaha volleyball team has been picked to finish third in the 2006 North Central Conference volleyball poll released today. Minnesota Duluth has been picked by league coaches to three-peat as the North Central Conference champion.
The Mavericks return two starters and six letterwinners from last season's 20-8 squad that finished No. 23 in the nation, advancing to the NCAA II North Central Region Tournament for the second-straight season.
UMD received six first-place votes and one second-place vote for a total
of 48 points. Second-place Augustana totaled 35 points with three seconds,
two thirds, one fourth and one fifth-place selection. Nebraska-Omaha received three seconds, one third, two fourths and one seventh-place nod.
Minnesota State received the final first-place vote and was picked as
fourth in the query.
Minnesota Duluth captured its second consecutive NCC crown in 2005 with
a 11-1 mark. Nebraska-Omaha finished second in the league race with a 10-2
conference ledger.
UMD advanced to the championship game of the North Central Region before
falling to Concordia-St. Paul.
Teams begin play on the weekend of August 24 with conference play
opening on September 15.
