No. 1 Mavericks Host Wayne State, Huskies

The Mavericks, who maintained their No. 1 ranking in Division II in the latest soccer poll, host a pair of matches this week at Ak-Sar-Ben Field. Wayne State will be the first, visiting Wednesday in a non-conference match at 4 p.m. UNO will return to North Central Conference competition when it hosts St. Cloud State Saturday afternoon at 1.
The Records
No. 1 ranked UNO is now 9-0 overall and 4-0 in the NCC. Wayne State will bring a 7-5 mark into Wednesday's game. St. Cloud State is 3-5-1 and 0-3-1 before its Wednesday match at Southwest Minnesota State.
The Series
UNO leads both series. The Mavericks are 6-0 against Wayne State and 8-0 vs. St. Cloud State. UNO defeated the Wildcats 2-1 in Wayne last year and recorded 3-1 and 5-0 wins over St. Cloud State.
The Coach
Don Klosterman is in his eighth season as the UNO head coach. Klosterman, a 1974 graduate of Benedictine, has a 133-26-4 mark and is the only coach the Mavericks have ever had. He has twice been named the NSCAA Coach of the Year, in 2002 and 2005.

UNO won a pair of NCC matches at home last week, defeating South Dakota 1-0 on a goal by Casey Bigsby, and North Dakota 3-0. Beth McGill moved into the career lead in goals, when she scored her 10th of the year and 46th of her career against North Dakota. Whitney Hill and Amanda Iwansky also scored against UND.
Next Week
The Mavericks will play two NCC games next week, hosting Augustana Oct. 6, then travelling to South Dakota for a 1 p.m. match Oct. 8.

* Senior forward Beth McGill now has 46 goals and 24 assists, putting her past Stephanie Kruse (1999-2002) in career goals and points. She has 24 career assists for 116 career points.
* McGill is the current career leader in points per game, averaging 2.07 through 56 matches, and goals per game, 0.82.
* The 9-0 start is tied for the best beginning to a season ever for UNO with the 2003 team. The 2002 squad won its first 22 games before losing in the national championship match.
