Mavericks Cruise to 5-0 Victory

Beth McGill scored a pair of goals and Brandie Beale added a goal and an assist Sunday as the Mavericks remained unbeaten with a 5-0 non-conference win over Missouri Southern State at Ak-Sar-Ben Field.
UNO, now 4-0, peppered the Lions with 28 shot attempts, 20 of them on goal. The Lions fell to 2-2 on the season.
Whitney Telschaw's pass found McGill, a senior from Omaha, alone and she buried a shot in the right corner of the net just 4:25 into the match for a 1-0 lead. UNO doubled the lead when Dani McCawley got control after a corner kick by Amber Richardson 12 minutes later. She passed to sophomore Casey Bigsby who poked in her first career goal at 16:41.
The Mavericks kept the pressure on and added three more goals in the second half. McGill scored her fourth of the season on a header in the box at the 57-minute mark on a pass from Beale.
Beale then scored her third of the year when she converted a pass into the box from sophomore Amanda Iwansky at the 82:36 mark. Junior Erin Fosnaugh closed the scoring with her first of the season, kicking in a ball that had bounced off a defender and the post at 88:47.
UNO held Missouri Southern to just three shot attempts. Lion goalkeeper Kaney Tyler made 15 saves. Meanwhile UNO junior goalkeeper Ellen Petersen recorded her fourth consecutive shutout.
The Mavericks are next in action Friday when they open North Central Conference play at Augustana at 4 p.m. UNO returns home to host Texas Woman's University next Saturday at 1 p.m.
