2 Late Goals Lift San Diego Past Mavs, 3-1

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- No. 5 ranked UC San Diego scored a pair of second half goals to post a 3-1 non-conference soccer win over the No. 6 ranked Mavericks Sunday night.
The Tritons opened scoring just 4:15 into the contest on a goal by Ali Lai. UNO senior Dani McCawley tied the game with her first goal of the season early in the second half on an assist by Lindsay Nealon at 52:10.
But San Diego responded 14 minutes later, taking the lead on a goal by Natasha Belak-Berger at 66:26 and added an insurance marker at 80:59 by Lisa Bradley.
San Diego outshot the Mavericks 15-9 and had an 8-3 margin in shots on goal.
The loss drops UNO to 0-2 and marks the first time in the Mavericks' nine-year history that they have opened the season with two losses.
UNO returns home to host Regis Friday at 5 p.m. at its new soccer field at 68th and Spring Streets.
