UNO Opens NCC Season at No. 4 UMD, No. 23 MSU

The 14th-ranked University of Nebraska at Omaha volleyball team (7-2) will head to Minnesota this weekend when they open the conference portion of the 2007 season. The Mavericks will play at No. 4 Minnesota Duluth (11-1) at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14. On Saturday, UNO will battle 23rd-ranked Minnesota State, Mankato (10-1) at 5 p.m. in Mankato.
Match Notes
Minnesota Duluth advanced to the semifinals of the 2006 NCAA II National Tournament. UMD's Vicky Braegelmann is the reigning AVCA Co-National Player of the Year, a two-time North Central Conference MVP, and a three-time AVCA first team All-American. The Mavericks split matches with Minnesota State last season with both teams winning at home. Minnesota Duluth swept both matches from UNO last season. Minnesota Duluth was the NCC preseason conference pick to win the league title for the fourth-straight year, while UNO finished second in the voting. Minnesota State was picked to finish third.

The Mavericks are currently 7-2 on the season after sweeping 23rd ranked Wayne State 3-0 (30-20, 30-16, 30-21) before a season-high 1,436 fans at the Sapp Fieldhouse. UNO has now won four-straight matches, including two over ranked opponents.

In the latest CSTV/AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 poll released on Sept. 10, Nebraska-Omaha was ranked No. 14. Other NCC schools in the top 25 included: Minnesota Duluth (4), Augustana (13), and Minnesota State (23).
