Mavs Shut Down Huskies, 3-0

The University of Nebraska-Omaha soccer team won its second match in a row with a lockdown effort on defense, defeating North Central Conference opponent St. Cloud State, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at the UNO Soccer Field.
The Mavs improved to 4-4 on the year, 3-1 in NCC play, while the Huskies fell to 3-4-1, 1-2.
UNO's trio of defenders, Whitney Telschaw, Jessica Powers and Niya Branch never allowed the Huskies to mount any offensive threats, limiting them to just two shots on the day. Neither attempt was on net, helping Mavs goalkeeper Lauren Fox to her first career shutout.
The offense, meanwhile, displaying its usual quick pace, fired off 19 shots, 10 on goal. Brandie Beale scored the first goal seven and a half minutes into the game. Amanda Iwansky sent in a cross pass, which Casey Bigsby softly headed to Beale, who found herself with plenty of room in the box to score her second goal of the season.
Kellyn Kramolisch scored her first of the year with just a few seconds remaining in the half, jamming in a short pass from MaryClaire Murnan in a crowd on the doorstep. Dani McCawley scored her team-leading fifth of the season to ice the game early in the second half, heading home a long free kick from Lindsey Nealon.
The Mavericks continue NCC play Sunday, hosting Minnesota State, Mankato, at 1 p.m.
