Women's Soccer Opens with Exhibition Match on Satu

The University of Nebraska at Omaha soccer team will kick off its 2008 season with an exhibition match against Hastings in Columbus, Neb. at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The Mavericks return two of their most productive offensive threats from last year's 16-6-1 squad. Senior Casey Bigsby was the team leader in goals with 10, while junior Mykala Hanson was tied for second with eight goals.
In addition to the 12 Maverick returning squad members, UNO will have the most newcomers since the program's first season in 1999. The Mavericks will have 13 true freshmen and two transfers, comprising the 27-player roster.
After starting the season 4-5, UNO won 10 of its last 12 matches, including six straight shutouts, making it to the NCAA II quarterfinals, losing 1-0 to Grand Valley State.
Don Klosterman, UNO's only head coach in school history, brings a 157-33-7 record into his 10th season. Under the direction of Klosterman, UNO has advanced to at least the quarterfinals in six straight seasons, including the 2005 National Championship.
The Mavs will open the regular-season with a home match against Rockhurst on Sunday, Aug. 31 at 1 p.m. at the UNO Soccer Field.
