MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Mavericks survived a close first set and then cruised to two quick set wins to close out a 27-25, 25-19, 25-19 win at Northwest Missouri State Wednesday night.
#Ellen Thommes# led No. 15 Nebraska-Omaha (16-4, 6-1 MIAA) with 11 kills and a .375 attack percentage. #Sara Kampschnieder# had eight kills and nine digs and the Mavericks hit .214 as a team while the Bearcats hit .086 in the match.
NWMSU took at 11-7 lead in the opening set and it wasn't until the Mavericks went on a 5-0 run that they got the lead at 24-23. The Bearcats scored two more points before UNO closed out the set with three straight points for a 27-25 win.
The Bearcats led early again in the second set but a 7-0 run gave UNO a 9-4 lead and the Mavs held on for good.
There were five ties in the third set before UNO used a 13-1 run to stake a 23-15 lead. The Bearcats closed to within five before a kill from #Lizzy Mach# gave UNO the win.
#Emily Myers# had 34 assists and tied Kampschnieder with a team-high nine digs. UNO blocked 10 shots with Thommes getting a hand on six of them.
