Mavericks Top Alumni 3-1 in First Season Scrimmage

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Nebraska-Omaha volleyball team began its preparations for the 2010 season with a scrimmage against the UNO volleyball alumni Saturday afternoon at Sapp Fieldhouse. The Mavericks debuted in solid fashion, defeating the Alumni 25-17, 17-25, 25-12, 25-17.
Senior #Kayla Uhing#, sophomore #Natalie Ebke and freshman Abby Sorensen# paced UNO's offensive attack, tallying seven kills apiece. Ebke also picked up a pair of service aces, while junior #Angie Reicks# added three of her own.
Junior #Emily Myers# (27) and freshman #Miranda Wisehart# (17) combined for 44 assists, as the duo split time at setter.
Defensively, junior #Brittany Hanssen# led the Mavs with three blocks, and sophomores #Chelsea Snyder# chipped in two.
The Mavericks make their regular-season debut with the UNO Volleyball Showcase, set for Sept. 3-4 at Sapp Fieldhouse. They open Newman at 12:15 p.m. and Northern State at 7 p.m. on Friday, followed by Saturday's matches against Midwestern State at 11:45 a.m. and Arkansas-Fort Smith at 6:30 p.m.
