The Mavs came out strong the first day of competition, sweeping CCU 9-0. UNO won all six singles matches in straight sets and took every doubles match in the win.
At No. 1 doubles, Carlos Ramos Salazar and Anthony Forcucci defeated Chris Flathers and Tyler Lego 8-5. At No. 2 doubles, Mike Hupf and Brandon Otoski teamed up to beat Dillon Etter and Andrew Wheeler, 8-3. Nathan Greteman and Peter Greteman finished the doubles sweep, defeating Matt Gibbs and Rikk Shimizru, 8-2.
In singles action, every Maverick won his match, highlighted by Salazar sweeping Flathers at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-2.
CSU-Pueblo 6, UNO 3
In the first match of the invitational, the Mavs fell short in a 6-3 loss to Colorado State-Pueblo. The Mavs were paced by Ramos and Forcucci, who posted a win at No. 1 doubles, 8-3. Ramos also won at No. 1 singles by defeating Anthony Birtenbach, 6-4, 6-4. Andrew Lescelius was the last Mav to come up with a win in the match, defeating Andrew Rogers at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-4.
Metro State 8, UNO 1
The Mavs battled against Metro State, but suffered an 8-1 loss to the Roadrunners. The lone win came from the Greteman brothers at No. 3 doubles by an 8-4 mark. At No. 1 singles, Ramos fought hard before falling 6-4, 7-6, and Hupf and Otoski were edged out with an 8-5 loss at No. 2 doubles against Adrien Delvaux and Alec Parmenter.
Mesa State 5, UNO 4
Nebraska Omaha closed the last match of the tournament with a 5-4 loss at the hands of Mesa State. UNO was led by Ramos, who teamed up with Forcucci at No. 1 doubles to win 8-5 before posting another victory at No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-2) against Brason Hollabaush.
UNO returns to action Oct. 1-2, hosting the Omaha Collegiate Invitational. Action begins at 9 a.m. on both days at Koch Tennis Center.
