GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Danielle Archuleta scored the go-ahead goal in the 56th minute, and the UNO women's soccer team held on to defeat North Dakota on Friday, 2-1.
The Fighting Sioux (2-5-1) struck first in the 31st minute, when Rhaya Ballon scored off an assist from Mariah Paz. But the Mavericks' Sarah Nordstrom evened things up in the 38th minute off an assist from Bri Exstrom. It was the first point of the year for both players.
After halftime, Archuleta put the Mavs (3-2-2) in front at the 55:20 mark with her second goal of the season. UNO kept the Fighting Sioux off the board the rest of the way, while outshooting UND in shots on goal, 7-6, throughout the game.
Katelyn Tschida made five saves in earning the win in goal for UNO.
The Mavs play at North Dakota State at Noon on Sunday in Fargo.
