Mavericks Hold Fall Media Day

OMAHA, Neb. - Players and coaches from the Mavericks' fall sports met with local television, radio and print journalists as part of UNO's fall media day on Tuesday. The event featured representatives from men's and women's soccer, volleyball, golf and cross country.
The UNO women's soccer team will be the first to kick off its season when it hosts Iowa State on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the UNO Soccer Field. The Mavericks begin Summit League play when they host Fort Wayne on Sept. 28. Coach Don Klosterman and players Kerry Pivovar and Monica Bosiljevac spoke with the media today.
Head coach Jason Mims and midfielder Joe Marinkovich spoke on behalf of the Maverick men's soccer team. The Mavs play the second of three exhibition games on Wednesday when they visit Drake for a 7 p.m. contest. They'll finish the preseason schedule at Creighton on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Morrison Stadium before beginning the regular season against Bellevue at home on Aug. 26. UNO's first Summit League game is at Western Illinois on Sept. 22.
Coach Rose Shires and players Natalie Ebke, Chelsea Snyder and Amy Roberts represented the volleyball team which will play its annual Red/Black game on Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Sapp Fieldhouse. The Mavs open the regular season at the Kristen Dickmann Invitational at Navy on Aug. 24. Their first home match will be Sept. 4 when they welcome Syracuse. UNO's first Summit League game is Sept. 14 at home against South Dakota State.
Runners Amanda Vorthmann and Kristin Rogers also spoke with the media on behalf of the UNO cross country team. The Mavericks begin their season by hosting the UNO/Creighton Classic at Chili Greens on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 10 a.m. UNO will have six true freshman on its roster for a total of 17 runners, the most in recent years.
Members of the media also had a chance to speak with Director of Golf Tim Nelson about the upcoming season for both the men's and women's teams. The Mav men return five letter winners from last year while the women will welcome four newcomers. The men and women both begin the fall season with an 18-hole exhibition match against Summit League foe South Dakota on Aug. 31.
