Late Goals Give Utah State 3-1 Win Over Mavericks

OMAHA, Neb. - Utah State scored twice in the final 16 minutes to take a 3-1 win over the UNO women's soccer team Sunday before 204 fans at the UNO Soccer Field.
The loss dropped the Mavericks to 0-3 on the season. The Aggies improved to 3-0-1 with the win.
Utah State, a 2011 NCAA Tournament qualifier, went up 1-0 on a 25-yard shot by Mari Miyashiro in the 14th minute of the match. Miyashiro won a loose ball and dribbled through the center of the field before chipping the ball over UNO goalie Meaghan Clark's head.
The Mavericks tied the game at the 20:56 mark on a penalty kick by Monica Bosiljevac. Sarah Nordstrom played a through ball to Hannah Wampler down the left side. Wampler slipped behind the defense and touched the ball around Utah State goalkeeper Ashlyn Mulford before being dragged down in the box by Mulford. Mulford received a yellow card, and Bosiljevac put the penalty kick into the top left corner to tie the match 1-1.
Late in the first half, Utah State's Jade Tarver got behind the Maverick defense, but Clark made a nice stop from point-blank range to keep the score deadlocked going into halftime.
In the second half, the Aggies applied steady pressure but for the most part were unable to test Clark with threatening shots. But Miyashiro took advantage of a Maverick turnover in the box to give the Aggies a 2-1 lead in the 75th minute. Clark attempted to play the ball out of the back to a UNO defender, but Miyashiro stepped in front of it and walked the ball into the net to break the tie.
In the 79th minute, Utah State added an insurance goal when Danielle Gaztambide tapped in a centering pass from Taryn Rose. After a corner kick was played in to the back post, Rose won the ball out of the pack and played it across the frame of the goal where Gaztambide crashed in for the easy goal.
The Aggies finished with an 8-4 edge in shots on goal.
The Mavericks play road games next weekend at Wyoming on Friday and at Northern Colorado next Sunday.
