Wampler, Lawler Earn Summit League Honors

OMAHA, Neb. - Both of the UNO women's soccer team's outside backs were honored by The Summit League on Thursday in the league's postseason awards. Right back Hannah Wampler was named to the All-Summit League Second Team, while left back Lauren Lawler was named to the All-Summit League Freshmen Team.
The awards were voted on by the league's eight head coaches.
Wampler, a sophomore from Lincoln, was an All-Freshmen Team pick last season as an attacking player. This year she transitioned to defense and was instrumental in helping the Mavericks reduce their goals against average from 2.33 in 2012 to 1.81 this season. The Mavs also gave up 63 fewer shots this season. Wampler had one goal and 11 shots this season.
Lawler, a freshman from St. Paul, Minn., started 15 of 16 games - the only non-start coming on Senior Night when all six of the Maverick seniors started. She was also critical to the Mavericks' improved defensive performance this season.
Denver's Kristen Hamilton was named Offensive Player of the Year, while Denver center back Jessy Battelli earned Defensive Player of the Year. DU's Cassidy Rey was Goalkeeper of the Year, and DU coach Jeff Hooker shared the Coach of the Year award with South Dakota State's Lang Wedemeyer. North Dakota State freshman Lauren Miller was the Freshman of the Year.
Of the 11 All-Summit League First Team spots, six were claimed by regular-season champions Denver. North Dakota State and South Dakota State each had two, while Western Illinois had other other.
