Thomas Announces 2015 Recruiting Class

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha head men's tennis coach Tyson Thomas announced Matt Dunn (Francis Howell North HS/St. Charles, Mo.), Andrew Ellis (Ames HS, Boone, Iowa), and Brent McKnight (Millard North HS/Omaha, Neb.) will join the Mavericks during the 2015-16 academic year.
“I am incredibly happy to have Matt, Andrew and Brent joining the team next year,” commented Thomas. “As a growing program I'm looking for players that are excited to grow with us. Matt, Andrew and Brent have all played some good tennis but their best years are ahead of them. I'm very excited that they're going to achieve that potential as Mavericks!”

Matt Dunn, St. Charles, Mo. (Francis Howell North HS)
Matt Dunn is a three-time state qualifier from Francis Howell High School in Saint Charles, Mo. As a junior, Dunn had an undefeated regular season at number one singles for the Knights. He captured a district championship and placed fifth in the Missouri Class 2 State Singles Tournament.
Coach Thomas on Dunn: “The first time I saw Matt hit a ball, I knew he had an incredibly high ceiling. At 6'3” with fast hands through contact I'm confident that we're going to see some very exciting things from Matt in the years to come.”
Andrew Ellis, Boone, Iowa (Ames HS)
An Ames High School tennis product, Ellis is a two-time state qualifier. He was a member of the Little Cyclones team that captured third place in 2012 and earned a seventh place individual finish in singles in 2013 Iowa State Tennis Tournament.
Coach Thomas on Ellis: “Andrew has the weapons, size and athleticism to play at a very high level of Division I tennis. He is a very nice young man and I'm excited to help him capitalize on his natural abilities.”
Brent McKnight, Omaha, Neb. (Millard North HS)
Brent McKnight is a four year varsity letter winner and state qualifier from Millard North High School in Omaha. McKnight is a two time honorable mention all-state performer for the Mustangs. As a senior, McKnight placed third in doubles at the Nebraska Class A State Tournament.
Coach Thomas on McKnight: “Brent has specialized in doubles in the past which will bring a welcomed skill set to the program. At times I see Brent as a great athlete who happens to play tennis, which is very promising because I don't think he has even scraped the surface on his tennis potential.”
The men's tennis team kicks off the 2015 season on Monday, Jan. 19 against Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark.
