Schmale Earns Second Academic All-League Nod

OMAHA, Neb. -- Junior middle blocker Megan Schmale was named to the Summit League's Volleyball Academic All-League Team for the second straight season, the conference office announced Wednesday. The team was voted on by the institution's faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors. Schmale was one of six student-athletes named to the team, which honors athletic and academic performances from this season.
Schmale, an elementary education major, carries a 3.98 grade-point average. She has twice been named to the Summit League Fall Academic Honor Roll and was also recognized on the Summit League Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence.
A native of Murdock, Neb., Schmale led the league in total blocks (143) and block assists (134) while ranking fourth in the league in blocks per set with 1.14. She started all 33 matches this season, also averaging 2.06 kills and 0.22 service aces per set while hitting .301 for the year.
To be eligible for The Summit League Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions. The volleyball all-league team is made up of the six student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
