Omaha Men's Soccer First Top-25 Ranking in Program History

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's soccer team is ranked 22nd in the latest rankings from Topdrawersoccer.com. This is the first ever top-25 national ranking in the history of UNO men's soccer.
The Mavericks are off to a 4-0 start, the best in program history. It includes a 1-0 win at home against No. 13 UC Irvine on Friday evening and a 4-1 victory over Cal State Northridge on Sunday.
UNO defeated UC Irvine on the strength of a first half goal as well as outstanding defense which held the 2014 NCAA Tournament Qualifier to just six shots on goal. Two days later, the Mavericks followed up that impressive win by scoring three second half goals to beat CSUN.
Junior midfielder Mark Moulton leads the Summit League with three goals and seven points. Moulton also leads the league in shots (15) and teammate Kevin Correa is second (11). Senior forward Andres Irvin is tied for the league lead in assists (3) and is tied for second in points (5). Sophomore goalkeeper Joseph Ghitis is second in save percentage (.818) and goals against average (0.67).
As a team, the Mavericks lead the Summit League with nine goals and 65 shots. Omaha is also second in goals against average (0.75).
The Mavericks will try to remain undefeated this weekend with their first two road games of the season. Omaha plays at Marquette on Friday, Sept. 11 at 6 p.m., before visiting DePaul on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 1 p.m.
Maverick Notables
- The Mavericks' 4-0 start is the best in program history and they are riding a seven-match win streak dating back to last season.
- The seven game winning streak is currently the longest active winning streak in NCAA Division I.
- Omaha has won 10 straight home matches dating back to last season. The last home loss was a 2-1 overtime loss to No. 20 Stanford on Aug. 31, 2014.
- On Wednesday morning, Soccer America released its latest Top 25 poll and the Mavericks entered the poll ranked No. 23.
- UNO also received votes in the NSCAA NCAA Division I Men's National Poll marking the first time the Mavericks have received votes in that poll.
- Omaha moved up to second in the NSCAA NCAA West Region Poll. Summit League member Denver sits atop the poll with a 3-0-1 record.
- Andres Irvin's three assists this season rank him fifth nationally.
- Mark Moulton's three goals ranks him in a tie for 16th nationally this season.
- Moulton was named to the College Soccer News National Team Of The Week and the Topdrawersoccer.com Team of the Week.
