Alihodzic, Ghitis Earn Summit League Honors

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Summit League recognized senior midfielder Fazlo Alihodzic and redshirt junior goalkeeper Joseph Ghitis as the Summit League Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, on Monday.
Alihodzic's award was the third of the season and fourth of his career, while Ghitis picked up his fourth-career weekly award and second of the season.
Alihodzic scored the game-winning goal in the 12th minute to give Omaha a 2-0 win over Eastern Illinois. The goal was his sixth of the season and second game-winner of the year. He is tied for first in the league with 16 points and his six goals are tied for second.
Ghitis recorded a shutout victory in Omaha's 2-0 win over Eastern Illinois. He had a perfect save percentage and goals against average while collecting four saves. The shutout was the eighth of his career, setting a new school record while the win extended his school record mark to 13.
Denver's AJ Fuller joined Ghitis as Co-Defensive Player of the Week.
The Mavericks are now 5-4-3 on the season (2-0 Summit League) and return to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 15, kicking off its first league road trip with a visit to Fort Wayne.
