Mavericks Top Nebraska Select in Exhibition Match

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's tennis team earned a 6-1 exhibition victory over Nebraska Select.
Kicking off the match with doubles competition, Alex Woodward and Luke Moorhead competed out of the No. 3 spot where they stopped Brandon Videwich and Taylor Boney, 6-3. Following at No. 2, Colin Buckley and Nathan Reekie had a tough match against Josh Raymond and Erik McKnight, but still came out with a win, 7-6 (6), to earn the doubles point.
With the doubles point in hand, the Mavericks took on singles in full force. Ignace Warson put Omaha on top 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-3 straight set win at No. 6 over Sebastian Florczyk. Alex Woodward came through at the No. 5 position where he managed a 6-1, 6-4 finish over Gorka Sanchez to increase the lead. Dunn clinched the match for UNO with a 6-3, 7-6 (5) win over Raymond at the No. 3 position.
Razvan Grigorescu had a fast start at the No. 1 position, where he went 6-1 in the first set but that was followed by a 5-7 loss in the second set. Grigorescu took control 10-3 in the final set for the win.
Buckley and Erik McKnight battled it out in a three-set match at No. 4. Buckley lost the first set 5-7 but won 6-4 in the second set. Coming down to the third set tiebreaker, Buckley earned a 10-8 victory. Reekie lost a split-set match at No. 2 against Francois Van Impe, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 10-8.
The Mavericks return to action Oct. 20-22, traveling to the ITA Central Regional Championships in Stillwater, Okla.
