OMAHA, Neb. – Junior Abby Meader was honored for her outstanding season, receiving All-Summit League Second Team honors, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon. The awards are based on a vote by the conference's head coaches.
Meader, a product of Lincoln, Neb., closed the 2017 seas as Omaha's team leader in points (nine) and game-winning goals (two). She also tied for the team lead with three goals and three assists. Meader appeared in all 17 games, including 16 starts, this season and logged 1,349 minutes.
Denver's Jessie Dancy, the league's leading goal scorer, received the Offensive Player of the Year accolade, while her teammate Meg Halvorson earned the Freshman of the Year title. South Dakota State's Annie Williams was named the Defensive Player of the Year, while teammate Maggie Smither was tabbed the Goalkeeper of the Year. South Dakota State's Brock Thompson garnered Coach of the Year honors after guiding his program to an undefeated record in Summit League regular season play.
Omaha concluded its regular season last weekend going 6-10-1 overall with a league mark of 3-4. The six wins are a new program high since transitioning to Division I, and the Mavericks' fifth-place finish is the highest since joining the Summit League.
