Grigorescu Finishes Second at ITA Summer Nationals

FORT WORTH, Texas – Omaha men's tennis rising sophomore Razvan Grigorescu placed second at the ITA National Summer Championship on Tuesday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center at TCU.
Grigorescu cruised through the first three rounds of the championship en route to the Round of 16, winning each match in straight sets. The Constanta, Romania, product also defeated two seeded opponents No. 21 Jonathan Sheehy of Abilene Christian (6-3, 6-1) and No. 53 Kamran Khan of Santa Clara (6-3, 6-2).
Grigorescu came from a set down to defeat No. 18 Gabe Tishman of Michigan (4-6, 6-3, 13-11). He then topped No. 13 Eric Rutledge of Rice in the quarterfinals, 7-5, 6-4, and upended No. 8 Tyler Schick of Tulane in the semifinals in straight sets. Grigorescu's run ended with a 6-3, 6-2 loss to No. 10 Alex Lebedev in the finals.
"I believe we are just starting to see what Razvan is capable of and I couldn't be more proud of having him represent Omaha Tennis," said head coach Tyson Thomas. "I can't wait to get him and the rest of the guys back together on campus to get back to work for the exciting year ahead!"
The Omaha sophomore is one of four returning starters from last year's Maverick squad. Grigorescu set a program record for most singles wins in a season with 19 and was the Summit League's Newcomer of the Year in 2016.
