Shires Announces Transfers Morehead, Taylor

OMAHA, Neb. -- Transfers Courtney Morehead and Jaclyn Taylor have joined the Omaha volleyball program, head coach Rose Shires announced Tuesday. Morehead is a defensive specialist/libero from Drake, while Taylor is a setter who began her career at Creighton.
COURTNEY MOREHEAD
DS/L, 5-6, Bellevue, Neb. (Bellevue West)
Morehead, a rising junior, played in 27 matches as a sophomore at Drake, ranking sixth in the MVC and first on her team for aces per set. For the season, she averaged 2.93 digs and 0.24 aces per set and had a standout 26-dig performance vs. Bryant. As a freshman, Morehead appeared in 21 matches, averaging 1.5 digs per set and nearly 2.0 digs per set in conference matches.
As a prep player, Morehead played at Bellevue West High School, where her team earned two district runner-up finishes. She also played club volleyball for the River City Juniors and Premier Nebraska. With River City, she finished second at the JVA National Championships and won the Best of the Midwest Tournament, in addition to winning the President's Day Classic and taking seventh at the Show Me National Qualifier with Premier.

"Courtney is a solid backcourt player who has an excellent platform and dynamic movements in left, middle or right back. She will be an excellent addition to our defensive play and provide much-needed depth. We are very excited to see what she can accomplish as a Maverick."
JACLYN TAYLOR
S, 5-11, St. Charles, Ill. (North)
Taylor, a rising sophomore, was a member of two regular-season and tournament BIG EAST titles at Creighton. Her 2016 Bluejay squad advanced to the 2016 NCAA Elite Eight, while her 2017 team played in the NCAA Second Round as a program-first top-16 seed. After redshirting her first season at CU, she was used as a setter, serving specialist and right-side hitter in 2017. Taylor earned her first career start vs. No. 19 Iowa State, finishing with 10 assists, three kills, two blocks and a dig.
Taylor also played in the European Global Challenge in Croatia in July 2017, helping her BIP Midwest team to a runner-up finish.
Taylor was a three-year letterwinner at St. Charles North High School, where she was a second-team all-state honoree as a senior. She also earned all-conference honors while averaging 8.5 assists per set as a senior, a season in which her team went 34-4. Her squad also won three straight Upstate 8 Conference titles and two regional championships.
