Men’s Tennis Picked Fourth in Preseason League Poll

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Omaha men's tennis team was picked fourth in the Summit League Preseason Poll, the conference office announced Thursday. The poll was determined by a vote of the league's head coaches.
Drake received six of seven first-place votes for a total of 36 points. Last year's regular season runner-up, Denver, claimed the final first-place vote and 31 points to finish second in the poll. Valparaiso (21) edged Omaha (20) to take third place. Illinois State tallied 19 votes, followed by league-newcomer North Dakota (7) and Oral Roberts (7).
The duo of junior Abdoul Ouattara and freshman Davis Lawley were selected to the Preseason Athletes to Watch List. Last season, Ouattara earned All-Summit honors while posting a 16-7 overall record and a 5-1 league mark. Lawley capped his senior season at Fargo South (N.D.) with a 23-0 record and was a two-time state singles champion.
Omaha opens its regular season on the road against a pair of nationally rated teams. The Mavericks visit No. 19 Oklahoma State on Saturday, Jan. 19, before playing No. 13 Oklahoma on Sunday.
