Korkunov Captures Weekly Summit Honor

For the second straight time, Omaha has the Summit League's Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week.
And, just like last week, the award-winner is a freshman.
Mikhail Korkunov, a first-year Maverick from Gelendzhik, Russia, went 3-0 in singles matches over the weekend as Omaha posted consecutive wins over Chicago State, UIC and Nebraska. He follows Todd Chen, who claimed the honor last week, to become the second Maverick to win the weekly award this spring.
Korkunov swept Jakub Zamorski of Chicago State 6-2, 6-2 Friday at No. 5 singles as Omaha posted a 6-1 win at Miracle Hill Tennis Center. The following day, he beat Ammir Wazir of UIC at No. 3 singles in a 7-0 Maverick win. Then on Sunday, he outlasted Nebraska's Roni Hiertaranta 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 at No. 3 singles.
The last of his victories allowed the Mavericks to pull ahead of the Huskers in a tight match, setting the stage for Omaha's thrilling 4-3 win in Lincoln.
