Men's Tennis to Make Season Debut at Drake Invitational

The Omaha Mavericks men's tennis team is set to get back to season action as they head to Des Moines, Iowa this weekend to play in the Drake Invitational. Omaha is joined by Drake, Marquette, Creighton, Wichita State, North Dakota, Gustavus, Augustana and Iowa Central at the three day tournament.
"I am very excited. we have a bunch of new guys that are new to college tennis, so I am very eager to see them in live action and how they handle all the factors associated with a college tennis environment," Omaha head coach Matt Barlow said. "I think we are playing at a solid level in practice right now, so I am interested to see how we compare currently with the other schools."
Omaha returns four rackets from last year's roster in sophomore Mikhail Kokunov, senior Alvaro Quintana and graduate students Hugo Piles Ballester and Davis Lawley. The Mavericks welcome five newcomers this year. A trio of freshmen, Ethan Ethan Gaubert, Daniel Green and Ryoma Mishiro along with sophomore's Bryan Kuntz and Quintan Van Wijk have joined the Mavericks before the upcoming campaign.
"Fortunately this year we've already been able to have the guys on campus for 3 weeks leading into the first tournament," Barlow said. "That's given our guys some time get some conditioning, rhythm, and some practice matches in. The guys and myself feel like we are competing well in practice, so that's giving us some confidence going into Drake this weekend."
The Mavericks will get underway tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. and conclude their debut weekend late Sunday afternoon.
