Men's Tennis Puts Together Strong Debut Weekend at Drake Invite

The Omaha Mavericks Men's Tennis season is officially underway after completing the weekend at the Drake Invite. Omaha went 26-9 over the course of the entire three-day tournament.
"It was a really fun weekend. Not only did we have success on court, but we learned a lot about ourselves individually and as a team," Mavericks head coach Matt Barlow said. "Big shout out to newcomer Quintan Van Wijk for going undefeated through all three days as well. I'm looking forward to more trips like these in the future."
Van Wijk went a perfect 6-0 on the weekend. Playing singles in the 4th flight and doubles in the 3rd flight, he went 3-0 in each. Van Wijk played all three doubles matches with senior Alvaro Quintana. Quintana went 1-1 this weekend in singles, playing in the 5th flight.
Sophomore Mikhail Korkunov, graduate student Hugo Piles Ballester and freshman Ryoma Mishiro joined Van Wijk in going undefeated as the trio went a combined 9-0 (3-0 each) in singles play this weekend.
Next up for the Mavericks is the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma, October 1-9.
