Mavericks Put ITA All-American Championships in the Books

The Omaha Mavericks men's tennis squad has put their second fall action in the books after competing in the ITA All-American Championships. Ryoma Mishiro, Quintan Van Wijk, Bryan Kuntz and Ethan Gaubert were the competing Mavericks for the tournament.
"Overall very positive results for only our second go of the year. We competed well and had some really tight matches against some of the best competition in the country. It was some of the best tennis I've seen Ryoma Mishiro and Quintan Van Wijk play so far in their career," Omaha head coach Matt Barlow said. Looking forward to hosting the Omaha Invite this weekend at Koch Tennis Center and regionals in a couple weeks!"
Van Wijk made a run into the 3rd round after defeating Javier Matos of Presbyterian 6-4, 6-4 and Graydon Lair of Michigan State 6-3, 6-4. Van Wijk fell to Connor Gannon of Memphis 4-6, 1-6.
Ryoma Mishiro opened up with a first round win over Emil Westing of Furman University 6-1, 6-2. He would go on to retire in the third set of round to at 1-6, 6-2, 4-5 RET.
Bryan Kuntz defeated Tomas Luis of Belmont 6-3, 6-1 in the first round before falling in the consolation 4-6, 2-6 to Stefan Latinovic of LSU.
Lastly, Ethan Gaubert dropped his first round matchup 5-7, 6-2, 3-6 to Alex Ix of Virginia Tech. In the consolation round, Gaubert battled in a three set defeat to De Alba of Tulane, 6-2, 6-7, 4-6.
The Mavericks next action of the fall is this weekend when they host the Omaha Invite at Koch Tennis Center on Saturday and Sunday.
