Seven Mavericks Combine for Nine All-League Nods

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Omaha men's soccer team took home nine All-League awards, as announced by Wednesday morning. One player was tabbed first team, one earned second team, five earned honorable mentions, and two received newcomer.
Theo Klein was named to the All-Summit First team and Junior Casillas earned All-Second Team. Gonzalo Cuevas, Ede Gramberg Martin Lago, Kyle Reese, and Nathanael Sallah are all honorable mentions. Casillas and Lago also earned All-Newcomer honors.
Klein, the king of PKs, played and started in all 17 matches this season, logging just over 1219 minutes as a forward. He had seven goals and one assist for a combined 15 points. Five of his goals this season came off the penalty kick, missing only one for a 5-6 record. His fifth PK of the season was against Western Illinois, and not only was it the record breaker, but his lone game-winner of the season. Klein's five goals is a record-breaking season high. He scored a goal in real-time during the UC Irvine match at home. With 33, he leads the Mavericks in shots.
Junior Casillas, a first-year junior midfielder, played in all 17 matches, logging four starts. He has recorded a combined 16 points off six goals and four assists. His most notable performance this season was his hat trick against Chicago State. Casillas scored not only his first goal as a Maverick, but his first three in a matter of 13 minutes, and his first assist. His trio of goals and the assist went down in the record book as tied for first for points in a single game (7). On the season, Casillas has recorded two game-winning goals, including the lone goal in the shutout over UTRGV.
Cuevas, senior defender, has played and started in 15 matches, logging 1269 minutes. He has tallied three assists including one against Creighton. Aside from his strong defensive efforts, he had a strong presence by the net, firing 12 shots this season. Cuevas helped the Mavericks to four shutouts and a 1.53 goals-against average.
Gramberg is another Maverick to see action in all 17 matches, making 10 starts and logging 736 minutes. Off five goals, Gramberg has notched 10 points this season. His goal against Grand Canyon was his one and only game-winner this season. He has a stellar performance against Chicago State, finding the back of the net twice. He has also put up 31 shots, for a .161 shot percentage. His season-high shots in a game were six against Denver.
Lago made 16 starts this season, tallying 1320 minutes. On the offensive side of the pitch, Lago notched four assists, three of which came in back-to-back games. His most recent assist was on the goal scored against Western Illinois during their final road match. On the defensive side of the pitch, Lago helped the Mavericks to four shutouts and a 1.53 goals-against average.
Reese, a senior defender, has made 16 starts for the Mavericks this season, missing just one match during the season. In his 16 games played he competed for the full 90 minutes in all but three games, for a total of 1364 minutes on the pitch. His strong and steady defensive performances helped the Mavericks to five shutouts and a 1.53 goals-against average.
Sallah has made 11 starts in his 12 games played, for a combined 962 minutes in the net. Sallah had multiple notable performances this season, one being the the 3-0 shutout over Western Illinois, where he made a career-high seven saves which happened to be his second shutout of the season. This earned him his second Defensive Player of the Week award, with his first weekly honors following his first shutout of the season. In the 1-0 match over UTRGV Sallah posted five saves. On the season, he has recorded four shutouts and a 4-4-2 record. He has compiled a .763 save percentage and 1.31 goals-against average. Sallah ranks second in the league for his save percentage.
These seven and the rest of the Mavericks are set to kick off against the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles for the third time this season in the semifinal round of the Summit League Tournament. Kick-off is Thursday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m.
