Dowling Announces Promotion of McReynolds and Herrera

OMAHA, Neb. -- Ahead of the 2024 campaign, Omaha head men's soccer coach Donovan Dowling announced the promotion of Josh McReynolds to Associate Head Coach and Cesar Herrera to Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator.
McReynolds and Herrera have served three and two years respectively under Coach Dowling when he took over in the summer of 2022. Under Dowling, McReynolds and Herrera coached the Mavericks to the program's second Summit League Championship title after shutting out both opponents in the 2023 tournament.
"We're really happy for this well deserved promotion for both Josh and Cesar," said Dowling. "I believe that the number one asset to a high performing organization or team is the people. Josh and Cesar completely embody our values as a program, and have both been tremendously impactful to any success we've had to date. They both work tirelessly for the program each and everyday, and I know will continue to have a positive impact on our future success."
Before joining the Maverick staff, McReynolds spent the previous four seasons as the head men's soccer coach at LSU Eunice after helping start the program in 2018.During his four years at LSUE, McReynolds helped establish one of the top junior college programs in the country, ranking as high as fourth in the nation in the 2019 and 2020 seasons. In fall 2021, McReynolds coached two NJCAA DI All-Americans and helped the team to their second straight NJCAA National Tournament. The Bengals ranked 12th nationally at the start of the postseason and finished the year with an 8-6-2 overall record. The Bengals also excelled in the classroom, earning the program's first NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year honor while placing 4 student-athletes on the NJCAA All-Academic Team.
Herrera, during his three seasons at Iowa Western, helped the Reivers capture the 2021 NJCAA Division I National Championship, finishing with a final record of 20-1-1. In 2020, Iowa Western finished as the NJCAA Division I National Runner-Up, finishing with a 16-1-2 record. This past fall, Iowa Western finished 17-3-1 advancing to the NJCAA national tournament.
