Mavericks Sweep SLU for Third Win of the Season
Feb 8, 2025 | Men's Tennis
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - In their best performance of the season so far, the Mavericks did not drop a single set as they notched their third win of the season and second in a row today when they swept Saint Louis 7-0 on the road.
Omaha is back to .500 on the year at 3-3, while the Billikens drop to 1-5.
"Feels nice to get a 7-0 sweep on the road," stated Head Coach Hunter Clark. " The guys were super solid all across the board and did what they had to do to get the win."
The Mavericks got the day started with a pair of wins in the doubles round as Mikhail Korkunov and Bryan Kuntz made quick work of Andres Castellanos and Luca Lo Nardo in a 6-2 win, followed by a 6-3 win from Ethan Gaubert and Christian Trevey.
Korkunov was the first to finish in the singles round as he once again dominated Castellanos in a 6-1, 6-1 win. His doubles partner Kuntz was not far behind as he cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Riki Koshimizu. Likewise, Trevey, Pavan Uppu, and Mikel Garmendia all kept their opponents to four points or less in any set as each of them took home a win.
With Omaha up 6-0 and looking for its first sweep of the season, Gaubert played the closest match all day as he came back from a 5-2 deficit to tie it at 6-6 and ultimately win it 7-6 (7-2) in the tiebreaker, before holding to win the second set 6-3 to complete the sweep.
