Taiwo Onatolu Earns All-American Honor
Junior linebacker Taiwo Onatolu has been named a first-team D2Football.com All-American. Onatolu's selection gives UNO a string of at least one first-team All-American in eight straight seasons.
Junior tailback Jamar Day, who rushed for 1,541 yards and a school-record 17 touchdowns, and senior defensive tackle Corey Petersen earned honorable mention on the team.
Onatolu led the Mavericks in 2004 with 98 total tackles, including four sacks. He had five pass interceptions, returning three for touchdowns on spectacular runs of 29, 34 and 52 yards. He also broke up three passes and blocked three kicks for the Mavericks.
UNO won its sixth North Central Conference title in 2004 and its fourth under Coach Pat Behrns. The Mavs also recorded their ninth straight winning season under Behrns at 8-3.
