OMAHA - The Omaha men's soccer team (3-2-2) fell to Saint Mary's (2-4-2), 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at Caniglia Field.
Saint Mary's recorded the first chance of the match in the sixth minute, but the Mavs defense denied the Gaels, who had just one shot on goal in the first half.
After a slow first 15 minutes offensively for the Mavs, Lucas Foreman sent a beautiful ball into the box to Derek Johnson, who got a touch on it and put it in the back of the net for his second goal of the season. Foreman recorded his second assist of the season.
The Gaels continued to apply pressure in the second half and broke through in the 77th minute to tie the match.
Saint Mary's struck again in the 86th minute to take the lead, which proved to be the game-winning goal.
The Mavs will be back in action on Thursday at Western Illinois in Macomb, Illinois. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
