Mavs Put 8 on All-NCC Team; 5 Are MVPs
The UNO football team landed eight players on the all-North Central Conference team released Monday by the league office, including the most valuable players at five positions and the coach of the year.
The NCC champion Mavericks captured their fourth straight league title and ninth overall with an 8-0 NCC record and a 10-0 overall mark. UNO will host Central Washington Saturday afternoon at 1:05 in a second-round NCAA II playoff game.
On offense, linemen Ben Hochstein and Jake Krause, quarterback Zach Miller and running back Brian McNeill earned spots. Miller was voted the most valuable offensive back and Hochstein, for the second year in a row, the most valuable lineman.
On defense, lineman Rob Lewis, defensive back Randy Kush and outside linebacker Jeff Souder were tabbed. All three were named most valuable at their spots.
Redshirt freshman Greg Zuerlein was also named the first-team placekicker on the dream squad that was compiled by a vote of the league coaches.
UNO head coach Pat Behrns was named the coach of the year for a second-straight year and sixth time overall.
The Mavericks also had six second-team selections. On offense, lineman Aaron Bierman, wide receiver Troy Kush and running back Nate Wurth earned spots and on defense, lineman Amp Ferg, defensive back Reed Taylor and outside linebacker Jacob Chandler were named.
Wide receiver Keith Eloi was an honorable mention pick.
