Mavs Get Post Season Tune Up at Rockhurst

The No. 8 Mavs will wrap up the regular season Sunday with a non-conference game, noon, at Rockhurst (Mo.). UNO (14-1-2, 5-1-1 NCC) clinched the North Central Conference tournament's No. 2 seed last weekend after the cluster at the top sorted it self out. Minnesota State, Mankato ended up on top with a 6-1-0 record, North Dakota finished third at 4-2-1 and South Dakota State grabbed the final spot with a 2-2-3 NCC mark. Tournament play begins Nov. 7.
The Mavs defeated South Dakota 2-0 last Saturday on Senior Day. Heidi Bargmann, Jessica Dotson and Stephanie Kirby were all honored before the game.
About the Lady Hawks
After defeating Winona State 3-0 last weekend, Rockhurst, rated sixth in the most recent Central Region poll, improved to 10-4-0 on the year. Last year they finished 12-6-0 under coach Greg Herdlick and fifth in the region. The Mavs snuck by the Lady Hawks last year when Christen Boeckel scored the only goal. UNO and Rockhurst are knotted at 2-2 in the all-time series record. Prior to hosting the Mavs, Rockhurst will host Quincy on Thursday.
On deck for the Mavs
The Mavs will make their fourth straight appearance in the NCC tournament, Nov. 7-8, in Mankato, Minn., and will look to win their fourth straight title. North Dakota will meet the Mavs in the opening round at 2 p.m. A strong performance in the four-team event could give the Mavs a chance to host the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament, beginning Nov. 14. Tournament parings will be announced Nov. 10 at 4 p.m.

UNO will look for its fourth straight NCC tournament title Nov. 7-8. As things are paired up, they may have to face Minnesota State, Mankato in the final for the fourth straight time. MSU, the No. 1 seed, will face South Dakota State and second-seeded UNO will face North Dakota in the opening round, Nov. 7.
The Mavericks of MSU clinched the regular season title last weekend when they defeated St. Cloud State. Last year the UNO Mavs won the regular season title and defeated UND 3-0 in the opener and MSU 5-2 in the final.
Solid finish should keep Mavs on top
In the first set of regional rankings, released Oct. 12, the Mavs were tied at the top of the Central Region with UND. Since then UNO defeated Augustana and USD and tied with SDSU and the Bison suffered a loss and a tie and defeated North Dakota State.
The Central Region ranking committee will release the final rankings Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. The top four will advance to the NCAA tournament and the region's winner will play the Great Lakes Region's winner.

After picking up win number 14 last weekend, the Mavs remained the No. 8 team in the nation. There were no major changes in the top-twenty-five as most teams prepare to wrap up the regular season. Metro State stayed at the top and Christian Brothers and MSU each moved up a spot to sixth and 24th, respectively. Northern Kentucky made its way back into the polls after early losses and a tie. Truman State moved into the top-ten at the No. 10 spot.
